Thanks for showing concern on the qualifications of tour guides. It is the wish of PROTS, the Government and every stakeholder to see proper and competence-based training being offered to students. We all hope that after this project of Curriculum Development is finalized, the training will be standardized. Then there will follow the process for Accreditation of colleges. And probably a National Exam for tour guides. There will be more control and monitoring of the colleges. But in order for these efforts to bring success the colleges must come forward and participate in the process. One example is the on-going project on the TEACHER’S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME by the Ministry of Natural Resources & Tourism whereby only two tour guide teachers from Arusha are involved in it! These are Mr. Izoba and Miss Angel both from PROTS. This is not very encouraging!
